SPOTLIGHT: LIGHTING TRENDS FROM DECOREX 2014
In unison with our UBER Lifestyle magazine article we explore in more detail the lighting trends emerging this Autumn.
Great lighting can completely transform your home environment. For the Interior Designer it can be the most influential tool they wield: setting the mood, highlighting areas or flooding spaces with uplifting faux sunshine. From the cooly subtle and almost subliminal gestures to the magnificence of picking out statement pieces of art, furniture, or sometimes the light itself can be the centre of all attention.
Execute lighting properly and you elevate the ordinary to the sublime.
I’m not sure who once said this but it is true with decorative lighting “one should strive for what one can only just afford to have…as well-chosen quality stands the test of time”.
Here are a few beautifully crafted picks emerging from our trusted sources and seen on the proud stands of Decorex International this year:
The dazzling yarns of glistening chain on the Volver chandelier from Terzani shown above, in its new circular formation causing many an intake of breath and which has just picked up a win at the International Design & Architecture Awards – not that it needs the spotlight (forgive the pun).
At Decorex we also saw the first outing of Heathfield & Co’s custom spin off brand, that’s so fresh they’re not settled on branding and placement, but for the purposes of the show they were called Studio Lucid – seen showing the Leaf to great effect.
Babylon Crackle Lamp
Spotted as the chosen table lamp of choice on a few stands were these Asian inspired Babylon Crackle lamps in striking turquoise or ivory with the distinctive crackle glaze.
Andromeda
Whilst their mid-century inspired Andromeda ceiling lamp finished in black with antique brass and adjustable arms is spot on.
Leoni Wall Lights
Some further gems coming from Heathfield & Co were these gorgeous Leoni Wall Lights made with fine Borosilicate glass with a deliberately ‘wobbly’ finish to the glass extenuating the shadow-play.
Basilica
A final offering from a great new range from Heathfield & Co’s is the ever more popular mini ceiling pendant used as bedside lights. This trend continues to feel top-hotel-chic opulent and the Basilica with delicate glass bulbs comes in a variety of ceiling formats and three subtle glass colours.
Bond Wall Light
The obsession for all things brass, polished or antiqued continues with offerings from CTO Lighting and Ginger & Jagger as mentioned in an earlier Decorex news story. The Bond wall light from Ginger & Jagger has a slight hand hammered dimple effect to the brushed brass outer and an inner sleeve of polished brass with two bulbs to cast warm light up and down.
