HOW TO: PLAN FOR CHRISTMAS

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year that everyone looks forward to celebrating. It can also be the busiest time of the year with lots of planning and entertaining to consider. We have put together this handy guide to help you prepare for the festive season.

Plan your activities

Around the Christmas season there are more events, occasions and parties than any other time of the year. Make sure they are all scheduled in the diary. Will you be having a house party? Attending a carol concert? Are you hosting anything at home? Maintain a schedule.

Begin in advance

Picking up items adhoc has multiple benefits. Preparing early not only spreads the costs, but often means there is no need to brave the crowds only to be disappointed later on. For food, wine and online orders – ensure you are aware of final ordering dates.

Seasonal shop early

Start buying and baking items you can freeze to save any last minute panic buying in the shops. Alternatively online shopping saves you the stress and hassle of even leaving your cosy armchair. Avoid the mad Christmas rush at all costs!

Wrap in style

Update your Christmas card list and make sure all addresses are still correct. Work out the number of cards required and buy them as a batch. Purchasing wrapping paper early also means you can wrap gifts as they are bought rather than a rush job at the end.

Create a master gift list

Who are are you buying presents for? Have they mentioned anything in particular they need or would like? Don’t forget that all important long lost relative or distant relation. See our gift guide for inspirational ideas for her.

Decorations

Before you begin decorating take note of what pieces you have left over from last year. Does anything need replacing or updating to fit in with your annual decorating theme? Plan your Christmas decorations to complement any interior or room schemes.
