Ethical Roots
Gloster began making garden furniture over 50 years ago in West Africa. Starting out with the local marketplace and building on that success, they grew into mainland Europe. Their foundations are very much environmental and ethically based. They activity re-use discarded branches and tree stumps (which would have been burnt) to make smaller components.
Superb craftsmanship
Gloster are now the largest furniture producer in Africa. In the 70’s Gloster moved their African base to Asia to access high quality Teak plantations. In the 80’s Gloster (as we know it today) was founded – manufacturing teak garden benches in Bristol England. Once again their craftsmanship and designs soon got recognised and were bought worldwide.
Teak
Golden brown, a close-grained hardwood and a high oil content, teak has exceptionally hardwearing properties being highly resistant to rotting and impervious to sun damage. It’s a great choice for outdoor furniture. All of Gloster’s wood originates from plantations with a FSC certification – ensuring that the materials are sourced correctly.
